In the year of 2007, we watched with excitement the Indy 500 on T.V. We enjoyed the car races before but for some reason, this particular sport has captured us with more interest. I believe it had something to do with a little person named Danica Patrick. She gave us the thrill in believing a female can compete in a man’s sport.
Within 24 hours, I went online and submitted my name for tickets to the 2008 Indy 500. Like a job opening, you submit your application and hope you get an interview. It wasn’t until we received our Credit Card statement that we knew we were heading for an interview. The second surprise came when we got our tickets and found they were in the first set of seats we selected, “Pit Road Terrace”. The third surprise came when we found our seats were right in front of Danica Patrick’s pit stop.
The first photo: during a routine pit stop.
The second photo: five minutes later after Ryan Briscoe ran into her as they were both leaving “Pit Lane”. After the crew pushed her car back, Danica got out of the car and headed down the track to give Ryan a piece of her mind. Head security stopped her before a word was uttered.
The third photo: a few minutes later when Danica was hidden in the pit tent from the media.
Unfortunately, she “DNF” (Did Not Finish) but it was still a thrill to see her in action and for us to be part of the biggest one day sporting event in the world.
