A number of years ago, my grandson started Diving Lessons. Watching his progress from the 1 metre board to the 10 metre board. We couldn’t contain our excitement for his progress.
Mind you, there are failures and accomplishments that brought tears of sadness or tears of joy.
We had focused so much on his diving progress that we forgot the other lessons and values that came with it.
There is something about this sport and this club that brought a different type of accomplishment. Being the only boy in his group, he has learned the value and respect for his fellow female teammates, especially Jane.
This summer, this valued friendship with Jane extended outside the pool. Spending some quality time together, they developed some independence and a trusted friendship.
So yes, lessons and values in diving has sprouted lessons and values in friendship.
